I totally agree with you. I don't bother to rip cds to the iPod. For the few songs I must have, I've simply spent 99 cents and downloaded. But in general I love the iPod smart feature that lets you discover new things easily - and I like to browse at random for hours!

I haven't yet had a chance to play around with my new Ipod, having just rec'd it as a gift before going away. Now that we're back, I'm looking forward to seeing how it fits my life, but I'm already realizing that I'm reluctant to give up my own thoughts on walks -- so many people seem to be plugged into theirs much of the time.
Also, like you, I have some questions about formats -- I still like to buy CDs; I like knowing how artists choose to put tracks together, rather than just listen to singles. But I do think that trying out new music this way will be a great option and I look forward to playing around with my gadget (not to mention all the Nola photos I'll be able to carry around with me!)
